When cheap just doesn’t cut it

A few days ago, I mentioned about buying an extra mattress to put in the living room.To my surprise, my in-laws bought one yesterday. Great, or so I thought. When I was feeding baby Clarisse in the living room today, they brought out that piece of new mattress. Upon touching it, I was dissappointed how thin the padded material felt. The purpose of me wanting to get a new mattress is to cushion her fall whenever baby Clarisse spend time crawling or practising to stand in the living room. This new mattress however is made from such a thin piece of sponge that if she were to fall head first onto the mattress, it won’t do much to cushion the impact at all. I didn’t even bother to ask how much it was. It must’ve been cheap from the looks of it.

Baby Clarisse cried when it’s time to leave doggy

We ordered take-away from a wantan mee stall for dinner earlier in the day. While Papa was waiting for the food, a doggy came near the car. I wind down the window and baby Clarisse stood up to watch. The doggy remained close to the patch of grass in front of baby Clarisse. We hang around for a couple of minutes even after the food is ready because baby Clarisse got so excited watching the doggy wagging it’s tail, roll around and jumping about just a couple of feet away. Then Papa drove off. Immediately Clarisse started to cry. Cried her heart out in fact. It took me a while to console and calm her down. She cooled off when we reach home a few minutes later.

Baby Clarisse can cruise and sit down gently

Baby Clarisse will be 10 months tomorrow. The past week has seen my baby Clarisse cruise all over the crib holding onto the rails. The size and thickness of the rails are just perfect for her little hands to grasp tightly so she has no problem cruising around the crib. She can’t cruise as well when her hands are placed onto sofas or against the wall, places she can’t quite grab onto well enough for support.

I’m back on the track and courts

For the past few months, I’m slowly getting back to my pre-pregnancy exercise and sporting regimen which includes tennis, brisk walking and jogging on a daily basis. It helps that my husband loves tennis and jogging. We’ve been playing tennis for the past 10 years before my year-long hiatus after conceiving baby Clarisse.

My fitness level has plummetted to the extent of hitting rock bottom. I could barely push 5km jogging or last more than an hour on the tennis court. And please, don’t ask me about my weight and body shape as I don’t need to feel more miserable than I already am.

My baby’s first meaningful word is

My baby’s first meaningful word? It’s not papa or mama I’m afraid. Instead, it’s … ‘SDAHHH’ which means star for you and me.

We bought some glow-in-the-dark stars and moon a few days ago. Stick the lot on the wall and wardrobe. Baby Clarisse loves it so much she often look towards the glow-in-the-dark stars with a smile and say ’sdahhh’.

On the downside, she gets a bit too excited whenever I switches off the lights just before her bedtime and that makes it harder to get her to sleep.

Contoured pillow to help relief neck and back aches, hopefully

Having bought several types of pillows hoping that it could provide support and relief to my neck and spine, I think it’s time for me to try something difference and more expensive: An ortho-pedic memory foam countoured pillow. What a mouthful for a block of foam that cost several times more than the most expensive downs and feather pillow I’ve bought in the pass. It claims to offer the most precise support and alleviate the symptoms of neck, head and spinal pain. I’ll be on the look out for one when I’m out shopping this weekend.

Neighbour off to vacation in the US again

My neighbour is going to the US for a vacation again, so I’ve heard from my maid. This is the second time he’s leaving for Las Vegas in less than a year and I’ve got to admit, I’m envious! The furthest casino city I’ve been to is Macau, a detour we took from our Hong Kong trip in 2005. How I wish we’ve got the means to go on holidays in the US or Europe. On our trip to Hong Kong, we saved ourselves a lot of money as we decided not to stay in the 5-star hotel that came with our tour package and instead chose a 4-star accomodation which is a lot cheaper. Likewise, if we were to plan a vacation in, say Las Vegas, we’re going to look for cheap hotel Las Vegas has got to offer as it is obvious that accommodation expenses is a huge part of any travel budget.

Baby Clarisse’s first savings account

Finally, I’m done opening a bank account for my baby Clarisse, a Yippie-i kids account at Maybank. Having kept baby Clarisse’s Chinese New Year ang pow money in the drawer for more than a month, she has a place to keep it now, her own savings account.

Are you into hi-fi home theater?

Do you have a friend who’s really into hi-fidelity audio visual stuff? Well, my husband has a friend who has up to now spent more or less $20K to turn a room into a home theater. And recently, we’ve got to see first hand what goes into making such an expensive audio-visual indulgence.
