Looking for apartments

My architect brother-in-law has managed to secure a transfer from Perth branch to Sydney HQ in the firm he’s working in for the last three years. He has always wanted to get out of Perth. The city’s too small and quiet for his taste. I’m really happy for him as he has been trying to request for a transfer for nearly a year. Right now, his uncle and friends are helping him out to look for apartments for rent in Sydney. Hopefully not too far in the suburbs for unnecessarily long commutes to the office.

Still looking like I’m five months preggers

My full term belly by 39th week was huge. The skin around my belly was stretched so tightly. Stretch marks, needless to say, covered most of my belly area. To make things worst my belly itches very badly that I left cuts and bruises as a result of uncontrollable scratching. It is a huge relief its all over but now, I’m staring at belly fats that is making me look as if I’m five months pregnant. I never really did lose much belly fat after giving birth to Clarisse. Granted, I didn’t exercise or diet hard enough knowing I’m going to try to conceive again when Clarisse turns one. This time I’m going all out to loose the weight and get back into shape as much as I can before I conceive again.

My not-so-smooth labor

Wednesday morning. I woke up at 5.15am, took a nice shower and checked my bags again. My husband woke up at 5.40am and we ate a light breakfast at home while waiting for my parents to arrive. We left for the hospital at 6.30am. Clarisse was still sound asleep.

After admission to the delivery suite, I was given enema immediately. My OB came at 8am to administer the induction tablet. Surprisingly, my cervix was already 2cm dilated so I was told to expect delivery by late afternoon. Nothing much happened in the next few hours and I wasn’t feeling much contraction pain.

My OB came again at lunchtime. He broke my water bag at noon and predicted I’ll deliver at around 5-6pm. Unfortunately, his prediction was way off as I started to feel worsening contraction pains less than 2 minutes apart just as my OB left the delivery suite.

Wrapping up the packing

It’s time to get my trusty Samsonite luggage bag out. This bag has followed me to so many place, including the hospital when I gave birth to Clarisse. I have prepared all the stuff I want to take with me to the maternity ward. I now know what my hospital provides and this allows me to leave a few unnecessary things behind. I have also found out that the maternity ward has WiFi internet now so I’m leaving the magazines behind too and taking my netbook instead.

Online life insurance calculator

My sister point me to this useful online tool that calculates an approximation of minimum amount of insurance you should be investing to protect your family. The life insurance calculator also provides a more exact calculation if needed. So now instead of calling up an insurance agent for consultation, most are annoyingly agressive in trying to hard sell, you can do some due diligence and estimate the amount of coverage you probably need beforehand.

Pregnancy at 38 weeks

Apart from the usual unbearable itchiness and pain whenever baby decides to do some stretching in the womb, it’s been pretty much the same for the past 2 to 3 weeks. The only thing is for the past few days I’m feeling menstrual-like pain more frequently. And its taking me longer to stand up and walk, after sitting for some time, without feeling as if the tendons in my backside is about to snap.

I came out from my OB’s clinic yesterday morning realising I’m closer to the finishing line than I thought.

Before the routine ultrasound scanning, he tried to feel where the baby’s head is with his hand. After a while, he said my baby’s head is deep and fully engaged, he couldn’t feel it anymore.

Ultrasound scan revealed everything is normal. Water around the baby is sufficient. Heartbeat is fine. Overall, my baby’s growth is progressing well within the normal range. His weight is estimatedly to be nearly 3kg now.

After the scan, my OB said I’m very close to delivery. In fact, if I don’t go into labor naturally within these few days, he’s admitting me for induced labor on Mon or Tues, depending on me. It’s going to be natural birth, fingers crossed if everything goes well. And I’m giving in to epidural again.

Shopping newborn stuff

All baby products were on sale last week and I handed over a shopping list to Aunt Alicia who offered to do the shopping for me. I am getting the usual stuff ready for a newborn – infant glass bottles, rubber mat, newborn diapers, safety pins, newborn clothings and the list goes on and on. Saves me a ton buying them at a sale with discounts up to 70%.

Pregnancy at 37 weeks

According to my glucose meter readings measured yesterday, I’m doing quite well. I did my best to refrain from sweets, chocolates, ice creams, mooncakes, cakes and it’s paying off. My sugar level is normal. With this glucose meter report card, I went to my OB this morning for my weekly appointment. My OB of couse, says I still need to stay away from sugar laden food until the baby is delivered.

Baby was awake and fairly active during ultrasound scanning this morning. I could see his head moving and turning, pressing against my pelvic. Each time he does that, I feel an uncomfortable sensation around my bladder region. A sensation I’ve been feeling for more than a week now. Now, I know what he’s actually doing to make me feel that way.

His weight is around 6 pounds now. Slightly less than average size according to the scanner’s chart. Clarisse’s weight was an ounce below 6 pounds when she was born. Baby brother may just be a little bit heavier at birth I suppose.

My OB says he’s not yet fully engaged but very close. I asked if I could have an induced labor next week, at 38 weeks gestation just like Clarisse. He suggested why the hurry since according to his scans, the baby is healthy and doing fine. Truth be told, I’m just so tired of being physically exhausted and uncomfortable all the time. And my skin is starting to itch real bad. My stomach has been itching badly for nearly 3 months now and I tell you, with the horrid stretch marks, bruises and scars, my tummy looks like a warzone.

Anyway, my OB will evaluate my situation on a weekly basis from now and decide the best course of action for me.
