My mom-in-law has started spring cleaning in anticipation of Chinese New Year. I was surprised when we went to her house today. Boxes, books, old clothes and many more boxes of garbage were strewn across the driveway. She has decided to clean up the store room once and for all. Lots of unused stuff are thrown into the store room and many of them are never to be seen or used again. For instance, there is an entire box of skincare and acne products which has expired years ago. Books and papers dating back decades. Old clothes which can be categorised as retro left gathering dust. And tons of old cassette and VCR tapes and even vinyls. The recyclers are going to have a field day when their truck arrives tomorrow.

When I started blogging, one of the ways I’ve tried to increase traffic to my blog was directory submissions. I simply searched for any free directory websites I could find and submitted my blog. I didn’t bother how good the directory site was and how selective its approval process was. I just submitted my blog without thinking. On hindsight, if I were to start another blog/site or help someone out with their’s, I would advice them to narrow down to the best few directory sites. Ones that are fairly selective when it comes to accepting a blog to ensure a quality listing. And also some directories cater for niche content. If your blog/site is related to the niche content, those directories are a great choice because the traffic you’ll receive are targeted audience.

Things are starting to return to normal.
Clarisse’s flu took slightly more than a week to heal. She had low to medium grade fever the entire week. We took her to the doctor thrice. Had her blood, stool and urine tested to find the cause of her fever but those returned normal. The doctor ruled out any serious infections. She has had no fever for the past two days. Only a slight runny nose and cough remains. I hope she completely recovers by Monday.
With her flu nearing recovery, Clarisse isn’t as cranky and irritable anymore. We are so relieved the worst is over. It has been a stressful week for my husband and I. Damn the flu bug which got Clarisse, baby Edward and my husband sick.

My husband sometimes wake up with a stiff neck. This is one of those dreadful mornings to start off the day for him. What frustrates me is he refuses to treat it. He says although it feels unpleasant, it is still bearable and doesn’t distrupt any non-strenous things he do. And despite trying out various joint pain relief treatments, he just has to live with it for a day or two until the stiff neck goes away. Well, I predict sooner or later, the pain will get to him and he will do something about his chronic stiff neck.

One of this year’s new year resolution both my husband and I made is to eat healthy. We have never been very careful over what we eat. The tastier the food, the more we indulge. But the tastier they get, the less healthy they usually are. I found out last year my classmate, a year older than me, was prescribed cholesterol medications by her doctor. More and more younger people are getting sick because of unhealthy eating habits.

I rarely have time to read the papers or news online being busy with a toddler, a baby and household chores these days. I merely glance through headlines now to see what’s going on in our country and international news. One of today’s local headlines – “Allah is ok for Sabah and Sarawak Christians” – left me dumbstruck for a second. Lost for words to describe how our government, UMNO to be precise, can be so stupid.
So I take it peninsular Christians can’t call god Allah. Only Christians in Sabah and Sarawak are allowed to. We can only interpret UMNO’s decision to do so is a politically one. UMNO wants to appease East Malaysian voters and no amount of reasoning or spin is going to make us believe otherwise. Sabah and Sarawak after all, proved to be UMNO’s saviour in the last general election.
UMNO first banned Christian calling their god “Allah” as this is seen as a threat to Islamic faith among the Muslims. And UMNO consistently opposed the ruling overturning the ban. Why the sudden flip-flop? And doing it in such a ridiculous way having two sets of law within Malaysia. There can, here cannot.
Today’s dumb decision proves there is truth in accusations of UMNO using this “Allah” issue for political gains. Using religion and race to hold on to power, there is no depth too low for UMNO. Just don’t drag us right minded Malaysians along on your way down. As government, you bring shame and humiliation to the country. And you make Malaysians the most fragile and insecure Muslims in the eyes of the world.

One of the challenges of weight watchers is the struggle of finding out diets that work and diets that simply don’t work. Then there are those diets that work only when you’re putting in super effort and these are a torture to your self control and will power to keep it going. If there’s one new year resolution I made this year, it’s to keep my weight down and hopefully lose 5 kg by the end of this year. Breastfeeding helped a lot to bring down my weight these past few months. But more importantly I’m going to maintain a healthy and low calory diet which has proven to work for me.

My cousin sister commented how nice and comfy my computer chair is. She works at a desk from nine to five for years but lately her back and shoulders hurts. Most probably her chair is inadequate in terms of support. It is important to make sure office furnitures, especially chairs and desks are ergonomically designed for people to sit and work for very long hours. I told her how I’ve suffered for years sitting on cheap badly designed chairs. Although my chair now costs twice as much as any previous ones, it is worth the money.

Year 2010 didn’t start off very well for us. Clarisse and Edward got sick.
Clarisse started with fever, diarrhea and two days later, a runny nose and sorethroat. She’s been feverish for 3 days now sometimes peaking at 40 celcius. I worries me so much when it happens. To make matters worst, her mood is terribly bad and she refuses everything we asks her to do. From drinking water and eating bread to taking her medicine and changing clothes, every little matter is a battle. That is why its an absolute nightmare for us when Clarisse is sick. Baby Edward has runny nose.
We took both of them kids to the paed yesterday. Baby Edward was treated with some medicated gas/steam for his phelgm and had mucus sucked from his nose. The paed gave him the usual cough and phelgm medicines. Clarisse’s stool was tested for Rotavirus which turned out negative much to our relieve. She was prescribed antibiotics, flu and diarrhea meds.
The past few days has been very stressful. Clarisse throw tantrums every time she’s asked to do something. Feeding her food and water is a struggle. She made me lose my patience, threaten her with the cane and scolded her until she cries. Just to put some bread into her mouth. It’s bad enough for us the kids are sick. Her behavious is making things worst. At times, I broke down and cried.
