Ever felt like you’re especially clumsy when pregnant? Well I did. During my pregnancy, I find myself accidently dropping and tripping over things. I would pick up something and it just slips off my hands. Sometimes several times a day.
Dropping stuff on the floor is definitely annoying. For my husband that is
He’s the first person I’d call to help me out especially when things end up under a table or the bed. I know he’s fed up with it but hey, you don’t expect a pregnant woman to stoop down on her knees and bend way down to reach for stuff under the bed do you?

My scalp started to bother me when I was six months into my pregnancy. It felt so dry and dandruff was shedding by the bulk load. It was particularly annoying as I’ve never had dandruff problems my entire life. Now all of a sudden I’m plaqued by flaky and itchy scalp.
It appears that itchiness is about to consume my entire body. I scratched to remove dried flaky dead skins from my scalp. I scratched a lot. My scalp was so painful but I just couldn’t resist the scratching. Air-conditioned rooms makes my scalp drier and itches a lot more.

The second trimester, that is between months four to six, is the most suitable time to travel for expecting mums. To be on the safer side, getting your doctor’s permission is recommended.
I stayed at home for the pass five months without going any where. My husband suggested we go for a holiday to relieve stress. This is definitely a good idea cause it will be even difficult to go for a holiday after baby is born. Here are some planning tips and precautions I took to ensure a safe traveling:

According to my OB, skin itchiness is a common condition in pregnant women, particularly for first pregnancies. My OB told me to bear with it despite how difficult it is as there is no effective cure for it. There are however ways to relieve the itch though.
First, let’s talk about prescriptions that did nothing to help the itch. I was prescribed a bottle of Mint calamine
for my itchiness. Too bad, it doesn’t work for me at all. My skin appeared drier having applied Calamine. My itch got worse.

Into the fifth month of my pregnancy, my arms and legs were getting more and more itchy leaving lots of ugly scratches on my skin. I consulted my gynae again and he advice me to do a blood test to ensure that I’m not having “Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy” (ICP). ICP occurs during the second and third trimester. Symptoms include:
- Itchy on the palm of hands and soles of the feet.
- Dark urine color
- Feeling fatigue all the time
- Lack of appetite
- Depression

I tried several off-the-shelf creams and lotions to relieve my pregnant belly itch, rash and dryness. Trying to keep away from using medicated steroids-laden topical solutions as much as I can. Bear in mind what I’m suggesting worked well on my belly. It didn’t work as well on my hands and legs unfortunately.
Out of those I’ve tried, Pureen Stretch Mark Lotion seems to be the most suitable for me. My belly felt a lot less itchy. The skin of my belly felt moisturised. Pureen Stretch Mark Lotion are to be applied twice a day.
The rest of the day, whenever I feel my belly becomes dry and itchy again, I applied natural olive oil to keep it well moisturised. After few weeks, the condition of my belly improved a lot. The rash and itchiness subsided.

Things were looking up by the end of first trimester. My heartburn problem seems to be coming to an end after suffering for nearly two months.
Unlike my first trimester, I feel like eating again. In fact, my appetite was ravaging. The smell of food was so inviting. I was so looking forward to get through my pregnancy’s first trimester. Everyone says that the second trimester is the most enjoyable period for pregnant mothers. This is the time where your appetite is good and you can go anywhere you like because the size of your baby bump won’t be hindering your movements very much at all. Well, nothing prepared me for what I’m about to face … ITCHINESS!

I was worried when I caught the flu during the 3rd month of my pregnancy. I had mild fever, sore throat, cough and runny nose. I went to see my gynae but I did not mention about my cough as I do not wish to take cough syrup. Fearing it might affect my baby. I took some panadol to relieve my fever and lozenges for my sore throat. As for my cough, I was able to relieve it with a few effective natural remedies :
- Take 1 cup of honey, 3 tablespoon of lemon juice and mix them in a 1/4 cup of warm water. Take two teaspoons daily.
- Boil 3 cloves of garlic in a cup of water, then just drink the water when it’s still warm for twice a day.
For dry cough, try this natural home remedy instead of resorting to cough syrups:
- Almonds are useful for dry cough. It is also a good source of calcium to boot. Soak 5 to 8 kernels of almond in water. Leave it overnight. Remove the brown skin. Mix 20gms of butter and 20gms of sugar into the paste. Consume it morning and evening.

In my second and third month of pregnancy, I had terrible heartburn and as a result, I had no appetite to eat anything. What you’d feel when getting heartburn is a kind of burning sensation in the chest and throat with some sour and acidic taste in my mouth. This is due to some of the hormonal and physical changes in our body. Many women start experiencing heartburn and other gastrointestinal discomforts in the first trimester of pregnancy but in some cases, it could last until their baby is born.
Luckily, my heartburn went away on the fourth month of pregnancy. However, here are some of the steps I took in order to relieve heartburn :

It was last September, I woke up in the early morning and feeling a bit down cause my period was delayed for 5 days. I did not expect anything because my period is usually late and I have been doing pregnancy tests every month. But on that morning, I was so surprised to see my pregnancy test is positive. My hands were shivering and I quickly ran into the my room and woke my husband up.
My husband just gave me a smile and went back to sleep! Then I shouted at him saying “Hey Dear, it’s really positive!”. Then he said “We better go for a check up to make sure it’s not a false signal”. Later on that day, the doctor confirms I am pregnant! We could barely contain our joy.
