Another boring Christmas Eve as we stayed home with the kids. And flu bugs all around as unwanted guests. All four of us succumbed to the flu one by one. Me first, then the kids and lastly my husband. I’m down with cough right now which I dread most because it could take very long to go away. My husband running nose is at it’s worst today. Clarisse and baby Edward is getting better. The weather is not too hot these days luckily because without the air-con swithed on at nights, the kids get well from running nose fairly quick. Four more days before our family trip so I hope we’d recover by then. Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.

Had my first Apple iPad hands-on experience today! Our regular PC retailer has one for demo in his shop and we played with it for a while. My first impression is that it was heavier than it looks. An iPad is a tool I’d throw into my handbag to carry around and I’d like it as light as possible. The touch-screen interface novelty quickly wore off after a few minutes but it is a great navigation tool. I see the iPad as a wonderful portable device for surfing the web. A few minutes is way too short for me to explore what the iPad has to offer but I’m sure it has a lot more going for it. My husband loves the iPad too but has never been a 1st-gen tech adopter. He prefers to wait for the 2nd-generation iPad instead.

Last Friday Clarisse complained about pain when chewing. I’ve noticed for some time now two of her teeth at both sides of her cheeks has got cavities, quite big in fact. And I’ve been constantly brushing and flossing to keep her teeth clean until she is willing to go to the dentist. But I guess its already too late to wait. We took her to the dentist on Saturday morning.
Toddlers and dentists should never be in the same sentence. I was glad Clarisse even agreed to go to the dentist. But she didn’t understand what she’ll go through and the pain she’d have to bear.
At the dental clinic, the dentist had a hard time cleaning out her cavity. Although Clarisse didn’t wail and bawl, she was struggling. Constantly turning away and pushing the dentist’s hand away when she felt pain or irritated. It took a good 45 minutes to do the filling and a great deal of persuasion. Even then the doctor said it may not be a good job as she was struggling. I hope the medicated filling would kill off any bacteria left uncleaned in the cavity.

Clarisse has been giving us a lot of trouble during her evening naptime recently. For reasons unclear to us, she kept wanting either of us to sleep with her. Only during afternoon naps whereas she willingly sleeps all by herself during the night. For many months she has been alright sleeping alone – day or night.
We will not be giving in to her demand. If she kept insisting either one of us to sleep with her during the day, and does so every single day from now on, we will be wasting a lot of precious time. We have ran out of ideas and have resorted to scolding and caning her. She gave us no choice but to be blunt with her. She needs her afternoon nap despite her reluctance or else she will have a hard time staying awake for dinner and all the way till bedtime. Without her nap, she will definitely be in a really cranky mood by dinner time and drive us up the wall.

Baby Edward easily gets excited when he’s walking and this leads to him trying to walk faster than he could. It’s been weeks since he’s taken his first few steps and he is more courageous and confident now. He’s taking bigger strides and paying less attention. And he’s definitely falling down more than he used to when he was walking slowly. He also has a habit a holding toys and stuff with his hands. Refusing to let go no matter what. When he’s walking with toys in his hands, he has trouble grasping for support. This had led to many bumps and knocks on his head.

Clarisse will be attending kindergarten next year. She would have to get used to waking up early in the morning. That means she, and all of us in fact, will have to adjust our daily schedule and sleep much earlier.
Right now, Clarisse sleeps around 11.30pm at night. That has been going on for more than year ever since baby Edward was born. She used to sleep at around 9.30pm but as life got busier, her sleeping time got pushed later and later. Our fault really.
So for the past few days, we are slowly making her get used to sleeping earlier. To do that, we are all waking up earlier in the morning by half and hour every week from now until school starts in January next year. Clarisse will have to take her afternoon naps earlier or else, don’t nap at all and sleep earlier in the night.

Coming home tonight, the first thing we did was get online and check these two by-election results. What a disappointment! To see BN win Galas and retain Batu Sapi by a bigger margin. My safe prediction was for Galas to remain with PAS, no change whatsoever. So to hear such results, really sad.
This will undoubtedly be a confidence booster for Najib’s administration. If the general election is looming as many had predicted, I’m quite certain these two wins will persuade Najib to hasten the call. Do so please, Najib. I am very looking forward to the next general election.
My hopes for the next general election is prudent. All I wish for is that BN never regain their 2/3 majority. I am confident Selangor and Penang will be retained by PR. Perak? Not so certain.
To all you people in Galas and Batu Sapi, you have failed to look at the big picture. Failed to look beyond your own backyard.

Baby Edward will be 13 months old in 3 days time. Despite lack of practise, he is making exceptional progress in his walking ability. He is now able to walk slowly across the room on his own. Last night, at my mother-in-law’s house, baby Edward walked all the way across the living room which is about ten feet or more. Everyone was surprised and delighted to see his walking progress. Baby Edward knows it too as he smiles proudly everytime he walks a distance. If he could talk, I bet he’s saying “Look at me, look at me”

There’s a new PC in the house. My husband has replaced our aging PC with a new CPU, motherboard and uhm, some other stuff I had no idea what he’s talking about. All in all, it cost him about RM800+. His initial budget was RM600 but due to some unforseen problems, he has to replace his power supply, USB wifi receiver and CD/DVD writer drive. That’s his new very very early Christmas present for himself.

Some updates on baby Edward’s development. He’s nearly 1 year and a month old now.
Slightly over 9kg the last time we weight him at the clinic when we brought him for his routine jab. He has 8 teeth and counting so far. Still not much hair on his head, just like Clarisse when she was one.
Mobility wise, he can crawl quite well now without accidently bumping his head on the floor. Most babies can crawl well by 9 months but baby Edward spent more time trying to stand and walk instead. He is capable of walking a few steps without support. Squat down, sit down and stand up unaided. Knows how to get down from the bed legs first safely. Even more daring, he realise now he can grab the bedsheet, step on the bed frame, and pull himself up the bed.
Still likes to bite people. My hands have numerous bruises having bitten by him out of the blue. It’s bloody painful! Clarisse too has got bitten by baby Edward a few times. The only person in the house who has yet to become a victim of baby Edward’s teeth is my husband.
