My baby Clarisse has managed to crawl a few steps. It has been weeks since she started to position herself on all fours but somehow reluctant to move forward. She’s now 9 months old so it’s pretty normal for her to be crawling by now.
She’s been quite active lately. Apart from crawling, she’s also trying to stand up. Put her near a sofa and she would reach out her hands and pull herself up to stand. Someone would have to be by her side constantly to catch her when she fails to maintain her balance afterwards. From the looks of it, there’s still a long way to go before she can stand and balance herself without any support.

While out in my garden taking in the fresh morning air, I had a chat with my neighbour seeing her busy packing up for a camping trip with her family. She’s be camping with her family at a tea plantation estate up in the highlands. It will be the first time her youngest son, now 3, experience the joy of camping.
Now this should be the way instead of taking the kids to the city and camping in the country’s latest and biggest shopping centres. We should introduce our kids to opportunities where they could get out, explore, discover and hopefully appreciate the finer things our natural environment has to offer. Much better than raising them in the confines of material and digital entertainment cocoon.

Global warming is a hot topic these days. We’ve even got politicians making political campaigns out of it. As for me, I find pleasure in reading about the latest developments on environmental issues. Particularly how science and technology is making our life’s more eco-friendly, and ultimately, helping the environment. So much so, that I’ve been pondering quite some time now to start blogging about it. But that’s wishful thinking right now, with me having to take care of baby Clarisse and house chores, where’s the time really.

I managed to steal some time off from parenting duties this afternoon. My mom took care of my baby Clarisse while I went out for a drink with my girlfriends. It’s good that she won’t mind spending time alone with her grandparents without mommy by her side.
Having a time out from parenting, relax and a good chat with friends is one of the best ways to unwind. Even if it’s just a couple of hours. Talked a lot of stuff today over 2 hours of coffee; baby stuff, parenting, politics and upcoming election and the latest juicy gossips I’ve been missing out lately.
My husband picked me up from the cafe at 3pm, with baby Clarisse and my mom already in the car and we went out to do some shopping. Like any other Fridays. It’s kind of a family routine to shop and dine out on Friday evenings.

I’m writing this from my mom’s house where I’ll be staying until my husband and his family recovers from the flu.
My father-in-law caught the flu bug last week and spread it to the entire family. My brother-in-law who flew back to Perth last Sunday took the flu virus back with him as he’s been sick for the past few days. My sister-in-law too were sick as soon as she went back to Kuala Lumpur last Saturday. The list of victims continues – my mother-in-law, me (luckily, very mild runny nose) and Clarisse as well (runny nose which I hope won’t turn into bouts of coughing and fever).

Eventhough I’m an early adopter of flat panel LCD monitor for the PC, I’m one of those people who have yet to step up from the old CRT telly to the LCD flat panel TV. And if you wonder why I’m still using that old National brand TV we bought 25 years ago in our living room, it’s because first of all, we seldom watch any TV. Unlike normal folks, my husband and I spend most of our time in our home office cum entertainment room. His PC is hooked up to a 22″ inch LCD flat panel monitor which is fixed permanently to the wall a few feet away via a plasma lift device. We get our dose of TV, DVDs, downloaded media, photos and anything literally from this setup. If we could find the time.

Today, my baby Clarisse managed to hold my hands and pull herself up to a standing position. Like always, having discovered a new physical prowess, she gets very excited to try it out and she certainly did countless of times tonight. Of course I’m happy with that but when she kept doing it during bedtime, I wish she’d stop and resume practising it tomorrow morning. I had to pin her down several times just to make her sleep tonight. But I hand it to her for being so determined and anxious to stand up.

My husband’s 12-year-old nephew will be turning 13 next month. When it comes to his birthday presents, it’s a no-brainer. We have been getting him PlayStation video games for the past several years. And the fact that his dad recently bought him a brand new PlayStation 3, I think he won’t quit gaming anytime soon. So without doubt, we’ll probably pick a couple of the latest and hottest Playstation 3 games. Using a Gamefly coupons to get some discounts. And I’m sure he’ll be one happy little bugger.

The mood and celebration of Chinese New Year is fading fast. In fact, to most people, Chinese New Years celebration ends when it’s time to leave their hometown, drive back to the big city and their jobs.
As for our family, the air of Chinese New Year ended when my brother-in-law flew back to Australia and my sister-in-law resumes her studies in KL. They came back to celebrate Chinese New Year and we had a blast. It’s also the first time my baby Clarisse get to meet his uncle. They hit it off right from the start and baby Clarisse enjoyed his uncle’s company very much.

My husband and I has been planning to renovate our guest room and turn it into our baby room. Baby Clarisse has been sleeping with mommy and daddy since the day she’s born. Now at 8 months old, she’s starting to crawl and we have yet to start put a finger on it. It’s high time baby Clarisse gets to have a room of her own.
Initially I had simple plans for the baby room. Keeping it simple enough so that we could maybe do it ourselves. That is probably a bad idea to start with because we could hardly find the time. After some consideration, we decided to hire interior designers and walk them through what we want. For me, children safety is definitely the first on the list. Off the top of my head, I’m thinking padded floors and walls (up to 2 feet). No sharp or pointy edged furniture …
