Bukit Antarabangsa landslide please sue government

Allow me to spare my 0.02 on banning hillside developments in the wake of Bukit Antarabangsa landslide. First and foremost, I’m absolutely sorry to residents of Bukit Antarabangsa to see such fate befall them.

However, I don’t buy the fact that banning hillside developments is nipping the bud of the problem. Take some exotic countries like Monte Carlo or villages along the Swiss mountains for instance, infrastructure built on slopes add to their tourist attraction characteristics. Hong Kong too for instance proves that structures built on slopes isn’t just a Malaysian thing.

I’d be willing to bet that the real culprit to such disasters is the lack of enforcements of the highest standards by local development authorities. It is no secret that money in the form of bribery and corruption in Malaysia has the ability to move mountains. And the lack of faith in our government’s competency by the public is not just a perception but a reality. When we have undertable dealings between the authorities and developers, wheels start turning. The problem is, when the wheels are in motion, no one gives a damn who gets run over.

Anti-roll bars on a baby mobile, WTF?!

My husband took our car over to the workshop today and fitted 2 rod-like thingy called anti-roll bars. One goes to the front under the hood and another mounted inside the boot. These things, according to him, are supposed to make the car handle a LOT better when tackling corners and stuff. I wonder how often he gets the opportunity to corner at full speed in a car labelled “Baby On Board”. If you ask me, I’d rather he spend the money on better tinting, car foaming for better noise and heat prevention, bigger brakes, better suspensions, air-con filter or something instead of these so-called performance parts items. I won’t mind an in-car entertainment system that includes an LCD screen either. But no, he went and blew a couple of hundreds of dollars on two metal rods. Go figure.

Woohoo, another 10 cent petrol price cut

Arghhh! I should have waited another day to fill up the petrol tank. I just topped up my car this evening before coming home and read about the 10 cents petrol price cut on the news. The remaining two bars in my Toyota Vios could easily have lasted another day or two of driving around town.

Yea I know the government promised to review petrol prices fortnightly but they’ve seldom reduce punctually. I guess they did it time this round. Well anyway, a further 10 cent cut to RM1.80 per litre is better than nothing. We need all the savings we can muster to go through tough times ahead.

Spring cleaning starts early

I’ve started spring cleaning early this year. Chinese New Year is only one and a half months away so I started with the storeroom last Monday. It has always been my choice to start with the crammed storeroom filled with useless stuff from wall-to-wall. If we didn’t sort out the storeroom every year, god knows what species would breed down there. Spring cleaning, to me at least, means getting rid of unwanted stuff. The problem is deciding what to throw and what to keep. I have a rule when it comes to making such a decision, if you can’t give me a straight answer what you’re gonna do with the stuff, bin it.

Increasing weight loss potential

How many of you find 30 minutes on a treadmill feels like a 2 hour mental torture? Lately, I have only one word to describe it, boredom. Absolute boredom. I am finding it increasing hard to motivate myself to go on a treadmill. I definitely need to allot more time to jog outdoors and playing tennis.

So far, my cardio routine, dieting and with some help from diet pill supplements, I’ve been able to shed a pounds but too little to shout about. I’m thinking of increasing the intensity of my workout progressively. I may not afford to spend more time working out but from now on, I’ll throw in some high intensity activity like 30s sprints between every couple of minutes jogging, for instance. As for tennis, I’ll avoid playing doubles or points which makes it a waste of time idling in between points. Instead we’d concentrate on rallying each other, corner to corner to encourage more running around chasing the ball. I hope to be able to arrange to have my workout routine in the morning instead of evenings as it is said that exercising in the morning before meals increases your body’s fat burning potential.

9-hour sleep compensation

Having had a 9-hour sleep last night, it felt so good after 3 nights of getting no more than 5 hours sleep at my mom’s house. I woke up at 10am this morning my mind feeling fresh and rested. Although my back aches like crazy, a usual occurance when I sleep past 8am for some reason I couldn’t understand. My sister too suffers from back pain pretty much chronically. Acupuncture helps to alleviate the pain she said and suggested I give it a try.

Fine weekend for my husband too

My husband loves the idea of me and baby Clarisse spending time at my mom’s place. Staying overnight? Even better! Coz this means he could just sit back and relax in the house without worrying about being disturbed. So what have my husband been doing for the past 3 days of sheer bliss? Went out for drinks with friends. Played tennis till his hearts content. Upgraded his playstation 3 hard disk. Catch up on movies and sitcoms downloaded over the internet. I guess he too had quite a fine weekend eh.

Weekend with my sisters

How was your weekend? Mine was absolutely wonderful as all my sisters came back to Ipoh to celebrate my mother’s birthday and I took this opportunity to stay at my mom’s place for 3 nights.

They arrived on Thursday morning. I met up with them later in the afternoon after having had lunch with my in-laws to celebrate my father-in-law’s birthday.

These four days passed by so quickly. Afternoons were mostly spent running errands, shopping, buying stuff and eating out. Instead of my mom cooking dinners, we dined out nearly every evening but spend most of the nights staying at home and catching up with each other until way past midnight.

Something is wrong with my mom’s PC

My mom’s PC has been acting strange lately. At times, when typing several particular keys, gibberish alphanumeric characters show up instead. My husband suspected something amiss last week, suspecting it was due to a faulty keyboard, he replaced it with another keyboard but the problem persists. The funny thing is, sometimes the problem crops up and other times it doesn’t. This is not good. The PC is barely 3 to 4 years old, but I don’t think we’ll be fixing it as it will be difficult to pinpoint where the fault actually lies. It could be the motherboard, system memory or the CPU, you’d never know. So it’s better to just draw up the specs for a new budget PC instead of fixing the old one. Like maintaining old cars, faults will just keep on coming one after another. It’ll be better off just retiring it and setup a new PC that hopefully gives another 3-4 years of trouble-free usage.

Flash floods in Ipoh is getting serious

Lately everytime it rains in Ipoh, flash flood seems to pop up everywhere in the town center to major residential and commercial areas. All it takes is 30 minutes of heavy downpour to send streams of gushing water struggling to find their way through clogged drainage.

We had quite a jittery situation a few nights ago after dinner. Heavy rain started to pour for more than 2 hours before we made our way home from the restaurant. We were driving down a stretch of road and the water level seems to be getting too high. We stopped our car, watched as the car in front of us struggled to push through water levels which seems to be getting deeper all the time. We also noticed two vehicles stranded with emergency signal lamps lit further down the road. It was clearly a no go situation so we shifted into reverse regardless of cars already behind us. I supposed they got the message too as all the cars around us did the same.
