Private hospitals’ astronomical fees

My uncle, 59 years of age, suffered a major stroke on Thursday which required surgery to remove blood clot from his brain. He remains in comatose even until today breathing through the help of life support. The operation was smooth sailing but whether or not he recover consciousness is doubtful. Family members remain hopeful and pray for his recovery but the doctors are saying the odds are stacked against it.

Another dilemma for his immediate family is the financial burden thrust upon them so suddenly. The fees being charged by the local private hospital is indeed scary. The operation itself cost RM15,000 and daily life support and miscellaneous charges amount to RM5,000 – RM6,000 per day. That’s six grand every day my uncle remains unconscious and hooked up to the life support machine. The doctors tried to remove life support but he was unable to breath without it.

Going through this ordeal further proves that health and medical insurances are a very important part of our life. It is in fact a necessity if one values the quality of health and medical treatment in times of need. It is no joke that health problems and illnesses can wipe out a lifetime of savings. So if you have yet to get one, go to your trusted insurance agent, ask for a health insurance quote and choose one that suits you best. Be prepared for life’s unexpected challenges.
