During our family dinner last weekend, my cousin sister took some photos of the occasion using her digital camera. Curious to look at those photos, I got hold of her digicam’s memory card so that I could download the photos into my notebook. When I got home, I realised the memory card doesn’t fit. As it turned out, my cousin sister’s digicam is a Sony and it uses it’s own proprietary memory card called memory stick *bummer*. Here’s writing this down as a note to myself, if it’s a Sony digicam I’ll need an adaptor that takes memory stick format to read it.

I’m going to my mom’s house with baby Clarisse early today. We received a notice a few days ago warning us of water disruption from 9am – 9pm today. Probably some major fixes to our constant water problems in the neighbourhood and I hope it will put an end to it. So I’ll be spending the entire day at my mom’s house.
I kid you not that the area I live in experience frequent water and electricity disruption. It’s no joke when you’re affected by these inconveniences several times a month and I’m not even exaggerating. Our neighbourhood is that bad when it comes to such utility reliability. And the funny thing is, the authorities has carried out major repair works in the past, or so I was told, but the problem persists.
Compared to my parent’s neighbourhood, its like day and night. Water and power blackouts rarely happen in their area. I wonder why? Selective treatment by the utility authorities perhaps?

I’ve been bitten by the netbook craze lately. Well, aren’t we all? It’s especially tempting for serious bloggers who often find themselves blogging on the road. I don’t really fit that description but I do marvel at the prospect of having an ultra-lightweight, mini notebook tucked in my bag.
I know my husband too is looking forward to get his hands on one. He easily gets bored following us around when we’re out shopping and wish he could sit down for a cup of coffee while browsing the web. We do have a notebook, a dinosaur-class IBM R50e which easily weights thrice as heavy as the biggest netbook. It is simply a hassle to lug that weight around on a casual day out.

My uncle, 59 years of age, suffered a major stroke on Thursday which required surgery to remove blood clot from his brain. He remains in comatose even until today breathing through the help of life support. The operation was smooth sailing but whether or not he recover consciousness is doubtful. Family members remain hopeful and pray for his recovery but the doctors are saying the odds are stacked against it.
Another dilemma for his immediate family is the financial burden thrust upon them so suddenly. The fees being charged by the local private hospital is indeed scary. The operation itself cost RM15,000 and daily life support and miscellaneous charges amount to RM5,000 – RM6,000 per day. That’s six grand every day my uncle remains unconscious and hooked up to the life support machine. The doctors tried to remove life support but he was unable to breath without it.

Nothing disgust me more when guests poke their chopsticks or spoon into dishes. It is a very common scene at chinese dinners I attend where everyone doesn’t give a s**t about hygiene and just grab food using their own utensils. Even when a spoon is provided and placed on the dish for everyone to use. I hate to say this but I notice patrons of the older generation are usually guilty of this unhygienic practise. I may be wrong but younger diners seem to be more aware of healthy table manners.
Either way, it doesn’t matter. I have yet to been to a dinner where someone doesn’t poke their utensils into the dish. As a result, I always strive to be the first off the block when the dishes arrive on the table. I would dash forward to grab a portion before everyone else stick their chopsticks into the dish. It’s ugly I know but far less disgusting than eating from a dish where there’s bits of their saliva from everyone at the table.

Sitting there right in the middle of our living room is a couple of cardboxes. In those boxes, there are a couple of speakers. I didn’t bother to find out what exactly they are but according to my husband, it completes his surround sound home theater system. Some rear and center speakers, woofer and some really expensive looking wires to hook them all up to the hi-fi components in our TV room. Whatever, all I know is it’s an expensive hobby these hifi stuff. Many times I’ve talked him out of buying those stuff but these are one of those rare occasions where I simply gave up convincing him otherwise. I hope he doesn’t emulate his peers where upgrading hi-fi components on a yearly basis is the norm. We simply can’t afford to indulge in such an expensive hobby. Make this a one-off investment.

Once your toddler starts to teething, its time for parents to learn how to take care of their teeth. Although the first set of your baby’s teeth won’t last a lifetime, the next six to ten years of your toddler’s growth is still a fairly long time to practise good dental care and hygiene.
Start your child off to good dental health practise. Cultivate the habit of good daily dental care and to ensure it lasts a lifetime. Therefore, it is never too early to get your toddler into habit of brushing their teeth regularly each day.

Visitors, be it friends or relatives, often commented why our home office furniture is positioned in such an arkward way. While sitting down, our backs doesn’t align parallel to the wall. From the day we setup our home office, my mom-in-law has insisted that we place our tables in such an unpleasant manner so that each of us, my husband and I would sit facing our favourable directions, according to Feng Shui. But more importantly avoid facing our most unauspicious directions. So the million dollar question is, does it work? If you are one like me who counts health and peace as wealth, yes I suppose. As for material wealth or luck, we’re still keeping our hopes high.

Frankly, the bathroom has to be one of the best place to unwind and destress after a hard day’s work. It’s the only space in my house where I could pretend I’m in a teenie weenie spa. I was browsing a home interior design magazine today and saw a feature on Kohler faucets brand of bathroom fixtures. One of the most tempting product was the 4-tile rain shower that shouts luxury, style and indulgence. Expensive too at nearly five grand but if I’ve got the means, I really won’t mind lavishing my bathroom with a rain shower. Or a whirlpool tub as well. After all, no place is more relaxing than having a good soothing shower or relaxing in a pampering warm bath.

My husband and I are increasingly annoyed at baby Clarisse’s screeching and screaming around the house. Sometimes baby Clarisse would simple scream, for no apparent reason, non-stop. Worst of all, when you tell her to stop screaming, she would scream even louder. Longer.
Here’s what I usually do to bring back some peace and quiet into the room :
1) Children like to imitate what they saw, they can learn it very fast no matter it’s bad or good. One thing I’ve noticed, is that whenever my husband and I disagrees or argue and raises our voice, baby Clarisse would start shouting too. Seeing that, we would now try not to argue in front of her. Besides that, remember not to switch on your tlevision or radio loudly. This may help to discourage your toddler from screaming or screeching.
