Baby Clarisse doesn’t like grandma in nice clothes

We went to KL with my parents last friday to attend my cousin sister’s wedding dinner. Baby Clarisse, grandpa and grandma went along on this trip. With my parents, I thought I’d have an easier time with two extra pairs of helping hands to care of baby Clarisse but I was wrong.

On the morning when we depart for KL, baby Clarisse refused to sit beside my mom and dad. You see, eversince about a month ago, she has this weird little problem with family members’ clothings. Especially my mom. Whenever my mom and dad put on something nicer before going out, baby Clarisse would stare at them for a moment and refuse to go near them. She would cry when my mom or dad tries to carry her. Put on those shabby clothes again, everything returns to normal and baby Clarisse won’t get defensive anymore. I just don’t know why this is happening.

Digital photo frames I like

My sister-in-law received a pretty cool gift today - a digital photo frame. I’ve been wanting to get myself one of these for a while but just couldn’t find one that appeals to me aesthetically. The one she got has a matte glass frame with a brushed metal border and it looks very nice indeed.

This is the first time I’ve checked out a digital frame hands on. It is very user-friendly and photos can easily be transferred from memory cards. The feature I like best is randomly rotating photo slides. Brightness and contrast can be easily adjusted to match ambience lighting.

Up and down, round and round the house she goes

As she gets stronger, I am expecting baby Clarisse to be a handful. I shudder to imagine how grandma and grandpa, their backs especially, can cope with taking care of her while I’m away because she likes to spend time on the floor walking (cruising with support), crawling and making her way slowly up the stairs. Up and down and up again. I have no idea how many times she could repeat going up and down the stairs because I ran out of gas before she does.

Recently, she discovered cupboard doors. As soon as she gets down onto the floor, she’d be heading towards the nearest cabinet to pull at the doors and check out what’s inside. Grandpa is very protective of his stuff so I have make sure baby Clarisse won’t get her hands on stuff inside the cabinets.

Baby Clarisse calls grandma

I had a pleasant surprised when baby Clarisse managed to call out ‘poh poh’ (grandma) today. Too bad, my mom wasn’t here when it happened. I told her about it and she hopes to hear it soon.

Lately, baby Clarisse is more and more willing to call papa and mama. Everyone in the family is trying their best to persuade baby Clarisse to call them. Unfortunately, none of them managed to do so. Maybe they are trying to hard and also baby Clarisse is shy.

Baby Clarisse gave me the most wonderful Mother’s day present last week. I said to her upclose “I’d be happy if you could just call me Mama’ and I got my wish. The clearest and most accurate sounding ‘Mama’ I’ve heard her call so far.

Cut your clothes according to your cloth

On the topic of buying houses, I’d like to bring up what happened to my cousin to highlight the old adage of cutting your clothes according to the cloth. It was 3 years ago, when he got married and in less than 2 months, he and his wife threw most of their savings into a double storey link house in one of the most popular and expensive real estate in Malaysia, the Tropicana. The amount they pay for a simple double storey link house is quite obscene, personally. Unfortunately, fate dealt a bad card to them as his wife was diagnosed with cancer of the nose. The following months of cancer treatment were financially devastating. My cousin were financially exhausted and their house were months behind mortgage, on the brink of foreclosure. Family members chipped in to help with their financial problems.

New houses are so far from town

My husband and I took a drive along one of new and upcoming residential areas a few kilometres from town center today. We’ve been looking out to invest in a new house for quite some time now but never found one that suits our fancy. My husband is especially picky when it comes to location. He always insists on getting a home as near town as possible but the prices are beyond our reach. We have a friend who works in real estate development, occasionally in contact with mortgage lenders, and he’s really up-to-date with housing properties. He certainly thinks that with our limited budget, we can’t really get much to choose from. I hope he can change his mind.

Baby Clarisse teething fever?

While changing baby Clarisse’s diaper last night, I felt she’s running a bit of temperature. The thermometer confirms she’s indeed having a mild fever so I gave her a dose of baby panadol. Good thing she’s as feisty and active as ever even when she’s having a mild fever. But I’m uncomfortable with the fact that the fever did not come from an existing ailment like sorethroat or flu.

Common cars given DIY facelifts

It cracks me up when I see common road cars being subjected to the DIY ‘Ah Beng’ facelift treatment. You know, when Kenaris, Sagas, Myvis and such cars undergoes a complete makeover on the surface. 13 inch Kancil rims being fitted with 18 inch ’sports’ rim along with matching low-profile ‘racing’ tires. Replacing the exhaust pipe with one so big you could put a football in and so loud when the pedal is floored but the car barely accelerates. Sticking things like rear spoilers and skirting so overbearingly humongous it might actually slows the car down. Local cars with front grill replaced by Cadillac grills. Myvi owners, in particular, are very fond of changing the look of their vehicle’s front grill. As for me, I like my cars in stock and original condition. Not even a sticker on the exterior. Or interior for that matter.

My aging ThinkPad tested with 1.5GB RAM

I’ve been offered a used 1GB DDR1 PC2700 RAM for half the price a new stick currently fetches in the market. My ThinkPad currently uses 1 x 512MB and 1×256MB. If I were to buy it, I’d have to replace the 256MB stick with the 1GB which makes it 1.5GB RAM in total.

The difference between running Windows XP on 768MB vs 1.5GB is staggering. The operating system loads faster, windows open faster, programs stay on memory longer so when you re-open it, it’s a lot faster. I might just take up the offer for the used 1GB notebook RAM.
