What gave him away?

Funny how some people would go to extreme lengths to show status and wealth. And on the other end, we have really wealthy people who doesn’t flaunt it. Sometimes though, the leave little clues that give them away.

I remember an occasion where my husband and I went to a wedding dinner. We sat on a table among strangers, middle aged folks all of them. There’s a couple you can’t miss really. The woman in particularly was covered in bling blings from head to toe - Gucci shades cum hairband, Rolex, designer clothing and handbag no doubt and to make sure we don’t miss her chariot to the party, she had her Mercedes-Benz key placed beside her handbag. I think she had more diamonds on her body than the bride. Definitely, she stood out from the crowd within the table.

Weekend family gathering

My two elder sisters made a trip back to Ipoh for a visit on Fri and they’ll be leaving tomorrow, Sunday. It’s always exciting when family get together and this time round, baby Clarisse is showing more interaction with her cousin sister and cousin brother, 7 and 4 respectively. She would play and laugh with them. Crawl and follow her cousins wherever they go. It’s great to see the kids having a ball.

My two and a half hour interview this morning

I went to an interview at EON Bank this morning. It started out with some form filling at 9.30am, half an hour of waiting for the manager and the interview took more than an hour. A lot longer than I had expected despite being the only person to be interviewed this morning. By the time I left for home, it was 15 mins to noon.

Here’s the deal. I am in consideration for the bank’s operations executive position. It will be slightly more authorative than bank officers but the salary hardly justifies the added duties and responsibilities. Furthermore, roughly 20% of my performance will be gauged by monthly sales quota I’ll have to meet. I dislike doing sales the most, but these days, banks require most of their staff to sell banking products. That’s a reality I have to live with. But if I do get this job, and pull it off, it’ll add a good deal of credibility to my resume.

My chair fell apart in just 3 years

Great! After just 3 short years of use, my dressing table’s chair fell apart. Furniture these days are really flimsy and non-durable. Unlike the past, the quality of wood and workmanship that goes into making furniture these days leave much to be desired.

Some wooden, teak furniture in my mom’s house goes back a long way. Older than me some of them. And they are still in use until this very day. It goes to show how lasting and durable furnitures are made to be many years ago, even reasonably priced ones as my mom says. This trait unfortunately doesn’t get passed down the generations. If you want quality wood furniture these days, you can’t find them in run-of-the-mill furniture shops. They are found in fancy boutique-styled furniture galleries and be prepared for the damage to your pocket.

Jusco’s foodcourt makeover now with children area

Our local Jusco supermarket has given it’s food court a major makeover. The renovation took about 2 weeks if I’m not mistaken and now the food court has an entirely different fresh look to it. The center of the food court now spots a children section. I love it. There are specially designed children tables, with seats and tables just the right height for children. A mini playground with padded floor, slide and swing sets just for kids. Baby Clarisse loves the place and it keeps her attention occupied while we adults get to enjoy our meals.

Streamyx sucks

Streamyx, Malaysia’s lousiest broadband internet provider, is acting up again. It took 5 minutes from the time I login to my site, click “Write Post” and start writing. 5 goddamn minutes just to go through two pages.

It’s been a week of annoyance. Access to international servers especially is very slow. I dare not hope for 1000Mbps broadband internet in Malaysia. I just wish they could provide a smooth and problem-free 1.5Mbps for now. As long as Telekom remain the sole player in the broadband arena, there’s no way we’re going to catch up to Singapore or Korea where 1Gbps are starting to become the norm.

Jon’s house warming gift

My pal Jon and his wife is moving to their new house soon. For their house-warming party, I’m thinking of getting him a festool carpentry tool as when he’s not busy working, he’ll be camping out in the shed doing wood work. It’s been his main hobby, in fact his only one, for as long as I’ve known him. He’s not into computers like I am, or books, music, cars or sports much. Just carpentry, pretty boring pastime if you ask me but hey who am I to judge, I could barely hammer a nail.

Foods to avoid when you are pregnant

Sushi

Kind of unfair to single out sushi as the main cuisine to have raw meat and fish I admit. Sickness contracted from uncooked food can be especially harmful to pregnant women. Food poisoning can cause diarrhoea which reduces your body’s ability to absorb nutrient. On the other end, it can cause severe complications and lead to foetal abnormalities.

Cold cuts

Make sure to put pre-packed lunch meat in the microwave before eating them. Pre-packed lunch meat usually sold at supermarket deli counter are known to carry the risk of containing listeria. Listeria can survive despite being heated before you buy them.

Busy day

It’s gonna be another busy day today. I’ve got tons of errands to run later - banking, bills, car insurance and meeting with an ex-colleague of mine to discuss over a potential vacancy at a real estate development firm. I’ll be leaving baby Clarisse to my mom earlier today and picking her up probably in the late afternoon. I hope baby Clarisse behaves herself today as she’s been pretty fussy and cranky lately, maybe due to teething.

Vintage sunglasses look? We couldn’t pull it off

My husband and I were window shopping today. We had some time to kill during the afternoon when baby Clarisse was at grandma’s house taking a nap. We stopped at a shop selling sunglasses and decided to fool around with a couple of vintage sunglasses as they are all the rage right now. You know, retro looking shades has made a come back. Unfortunately, not everyone could pull it off. Definitely not us, we look funny with them.
