Baby Clarisse recovering from flu and fever

We took baby Clarisse to the paedatrician on Monday and took home bottles of runny nose, phelgm and fever suppressants. These are on top of a five-day course of antibiotics, Augmentin. It really saddens me to see baby Clarisse needing to take so much medicine.

Apart from the compulsory antibiotics, the other medicines are to be taken when needed only. Fortunately, her fever went down after Monday, so I gave her only runny nose and phelgm medicines on Tuesday.

Baby Clarisse has improved very much today so she’s only taking her antibiotics now which shall continue until Friday. Augmentin, her antibiotics syrup, tastes really nice and I’m glad she take it willingly without shoving and pushing. Her runny nose seems to have dried up a lot. And she’s not coughing much today.

Former colleague came visiting

One of my former colleaque came visiting yesterday evening. I wasn’t expecting the visit, it was so out of the blue. Luckily, baby Clarisse has recovered much from fever and runny nose since Saturday. Or else, she’d be whiny and cranky, needing my attention all the time.

Baby has the flu and fever

After a day of running nose, baby Clarisse came down with fever this morning. We would’ve taken her to the doctor if it wasn’t a Sunday.

Last night, baby Clarisse had trouble sleeping well. There were lots of mucus in her nose and it was bothering her breathing. She turned and tossed a lot. Got up a couple of times, sneezed them mucus out which is good thing and cried to be nursed back to sleep. I can’t blame her for being fussy and cranky the entire night and morning eventhough my husband and I woke up many times because of her wakefulness.

To overcome separation anxiety

Due to my baby Clarisse’s constant demand for breastmilk, I have never left her to be cared by someone else throughout her first 10 months. Even during the day, baby Clarisse needs to be nursed to sleep. I bring her along wherever I go.

Now that she’ll be turning one next month, I’m glad to be able to devote all my time and energy to care for her throughout her entire first year but this has to stop somehow. I have decided it’s time for me to get a job and return to the workforce.

Before seriously looking for jobs, there are a few things I need to take care of. First, I have to wean baby Clarisse from breastfeeding. Secondly, my mother has agreed to take care of baby Clarisse and we have to make sure baby Clarisse get used to spending long hours at her grandma’s house gradually.

Bought some door knob covers

Strolling along door hardware section in the supermarket, I saw some door knob covers and it was just the thing I was looking for. So I bought a few to be used on my wardrobe drawers, my bathroom door and baby Clarisse’s room. She’s cruising and when she gets near a door, she’s imitating us by pulling at the door levers. She has already managed to open my wardrobe drawers at will. She’ll be opening doors very soon I think. Door knob covers help keep children away from places of hazard. Especially the bathroom.

Baby Light and Clip - The Lighted Nail Clipper

Some things just make sense. Take for instance, baby nail clippers from Baby Light & Clip. It addresses the problem of clipping your infant’s nails in dim lighting. Even with the lights on, it is barely enough brightness when your face is a few inches away from your baby’s finger.
Baby Light and Clip Illuminated Nail Clipper So the novelty of Baby Light & Clip is to put the light in the nail clipper itself to illuminate your baby’s fingertip while you trim away her nails. Simply brilliant, functional and practical.

Most moms tend to prefer clipping when their babies are asleep. I used to do it that way with my baby Clarisse. She tends to move about and can’t stay still when she’s awake. I can’t keep her fingers steady for more than a few seconds. So I had to trim her nails at night. It’s a hassle holding a small torchlight, nail clipper and her fingers at the same time.

Tips to prevent constipation when pregnant

Pregnant and suffering from bowel irregularity? Tell me about it. It’s a fairly common condition that many women face during pregnancy.

When you’re pregnant, your hormones relaxes your bowel muscles. Slowing down your bowel muscles also hampers intestinal movements. Hence, limiting your muscles’ ability to push food and waste down your intestines.

Here are some tips to keep your bowel movement moving along:

  • Fluids, and lots of them. Drink more water regularly.
  • Keep your feet up in an elevated position whenever possible. Preferrably when you’re lying down because sitting down too much is unadvisable.
  • Supplement your daily cup of hot cereal with a dash of molasses or grounded flaxseed. Adding them to hot drinks if much preferrable to drinking it straight with a warm cup of plain water.
  • Being pregnant doesn’t mean you are banned from exercising. Regular, gentle exercise like walking, swimming, stationary cycling, yog a or pilates (watched by a professional trainer of course) improves bowel stimulation. You’ll find your body able to digest food better. Kegels (floor exercises for pelvic) also benefit bowel movements by improving blood flow to the bowel area.
  • Go whenever you feel the urge to pass motion. Don’t wait or you’ll risk having your stool become dry and hard.
  • Certain fruits and nuts contain natural laxatives. Go with olive oil, watercress, soybeans, apricots, almonds, mangos and perhaps best of all: prunes.

My husband collects scrap metal

My husband came home one day with a boot load of metal stuff. A bunch of computer casing, patch panels, racks and such. These are leftovers from a company who recently did a major upgrade to their IT department. It’s not the first time my husband collects scrap metal. Or rubbish as my mother-in-law calls it. My husband say these are freebies or bonus from his line of work. I do wish he’d take it straight to the recyclers instead of stacking them at our backyard which is unsightly and takes up space.

But never undestimate how much these scrap metal could fetch on the market nowadays. Prices are a few times higher than what they were a few years ago. That makes the sight of scrap metal heap at my backyard more or less bearable I guess.

I might get this for my husband’s birthday

My husband is a coffee drinker so I’m thinking of buying him a coffee machine for his birthday this year. For years, he’s been dreaming of owning an espresso machine and the only thing keeping him from getting one is the price tag, espresso machines are really expensive. But I’ve gotta admit, they are very well made and finished. It’s like a piece of art deco in the kitchen.

Lately, he’s been telling me about this $25 coffee maker called Aeropress. Judging from feedback and testimonials from coffee forums and websites, the Aeropress got rave reviews. In fact, you’d be hardpressed to find a bad review. Many from the coffee community said the Aeropress made the best cup of coffee they had ever tasted.
