When cheap just doesn’t cut it

A few days ago, I mentioned about buying an extra mattress to put in the living room.To my surprise, my in-laws bought one yesterday. Great, or so I thought. When I was feeding baby Clarisse in the living room today, they brought out that piece of new mattress. Upon touching it, I was dissappointed how thin the padded material felt. The purpose of me wanting to get a new mattress is to cushion her fall whenever baby Clarisse spend time crawling or practising to stand in the living room. This new mattress however is made from such a thin piece of sponge that if she were to fall head first onto the mattress, it won’t do much to cushion the impact at all. I didn’t even bother to ask how much it was. It must’ve been cheap from the looks of it.

I am grateful they bought a new mattress for baby Clarisse. But now, I’m afraid that if I refuse to use it, they’d be slightly offended. This is not the first time I’m stuck in such arkward situations.

I just wish they realise it’s not always wise to save a few bucks. And I hope they take the time and effort to shop around and find out more about products they intend to buy. It’s not easy to buy quality products on the cheap, I know. But paying more for well quality products that serves its purpose is better than a paying half price for something that doesn’t do you any good.

Two years ago, they bought an exercise equipment thingy, you know the one that combines a stepper and skiing motion exercising the legs and arms at the same time. I told them to go for a more established brand instead of an unknown brand being sold at a promotional booth in a shopping centre. Yes it might have costs a third more than the lesser known brand, but the extra money is buying you a tougher and more durable exercise equipment as seen in one of the gyms I’ve been to. Right, they went ahead with the cheaper one and two years later, it’s in the storage room. Broken and useless. Money well spent?
