What does celebrities like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse have in common apart? Apart from sharing the Hollywood limelight, they also share checking in and out addiction treatment centres.
But what irks me most is the media’s insatiable appetite to air these pathetic celebs’ every move. I’m sick of it.
It’s not easy being a parent these days. Parents are already having a hard time trying to keep their kids away from smoking and toddlers from McDonalds. The fact that media gets a field day publishing their disgusting pastime activities poses a social problem, especially to parents with teenage kids who might get the idea that alcohol or drug abuse is chic.

A big part of baby Clarisse wardrobe consists of hand-me-down clothes from family and friends. So does most of her toys. We seldom buy her new toys. The new ones are usually presents from friends and family members.
Yesterday, my baby Clarisse got one heck of a hand-me-down toy. It’s a Fisher-Price Infant to Toddler Rocker given to us by my husband’s aunt. It belongs to her grandchildren who have outgrown the rocker. Pretty good condition for a 3 year old baby rocker.
But parents should be wary when your toddler is big enough to sit up and lean forward. Babies might tip the rocker to fall over if she leans forward far enough.

While cleaning up the last bits and pieces of stuff in our home office area, I accidentally tripped over my husband’s hi-fi cable. Bad enough that the cable came off the connecting end to the speakers. At first, I thought nothing of it. To be honest, I thought how expensive can it be.
When he came home and saw the cable’s connector was ripped, he was very upset. And it was only at that moment he told me exactly how much that hi-fi cable really cost; a cool one grand for a flimsy little cable barely 3 metres long! Oh my gawd!

I think my baby Clarisse has entered what is called a missing-mummy phase. She’s a week into her 8th month and typically that’s when it happens.
Yesterday I visited a school mate of mine. She has a baby girl one month younger than my baby Clarisse. When I went into the house, I was surprised her baby smiled when she saw me. I carried her and instead of crying, she seemed so happy.
Her pleasant reaction to strangers is a far cry from my baby Clarisse. And lately, her sensitivity towards strangers seems to have gotten worst. She would cry for mommy whenever strangers try to carry her. When she’s in an unpleasant mood, she’d even cry before someone even touches her. Just a few weeks ago, she was much braver and open to strangers.

What a tough day it has been. My husband and I spent the whole afternoon moving out from our home office area.
I don’t know how far you indulge in Feng Shui for your home but when it comes to my mother-in-law, you’ll see how pushing the limits look like. Thanks to her, my husband and I have to shift out of our home office backroom.
According to her, a good part of the south sector of our house will be badly afflicted in year 2008. In fact, starting today, she believes occupants who spend most of their time in the south sector, will be afflicted so badly that she is taking no chances and literally ordered us to shift to another room.

This evening I got a shock when I saw baby Clarisse holding a bunch of cheap pens we bought from Tesco today. I quickly grab it from her. At that moment I was so angry I shouted who put a bunch of pens on the bed. My husband quickly ran out from the bathroom and asked what is happening. I told him baby Clarisse was playing with those pen and she nearly put it in her mouth. My husband told me he never expected baby Clarisse to be able to reach out for those pen since he put it at the corner end of the bed. So far, baby Clarisse can’t crawl yet but she would try hard to get her hands on an object by rolling over or pushing her body forward with legs while lying on her back. We had underestimated her persistence to get something she wants.

Just a few days ago baby Clarisse first called me “Mama”, or sounds like it. Today my husband were elated when baby Clarisse uttered “Pa … Pa …” for the first time. We were in the car and driving about town when it happened. Even though she doesn’t mean what she’s saying right now, we’re very happy to hear it nonetheless. If only she knows how sweet those two words “Mama” and “Papa” sounds to us first time parents.
