Clumsiness During Pregnancy
Ever felt like you’re especially clumsy when pregnant? Well I did. During my pregnancy, I find myself accidently dropping and tripping over things. I would pick up something and it just slips off my hands. Sometimes several times a day.
Dropping stuff on the floor is definitely annoying. For my husband that is
He’s the first person I’d call to help me out especially when things end up under a table or the bed. I know he’s fed up with it but hey, you don’t expect a pregnant woman to stoop down on her knees and bend way down to reach for stuff under the bed do you?
Besides that, I nearly tripped over my own feet sometimes. My husband would hold my hand as much as we can whenever we walk in public. He worries that I might fall down easily.
Apparently clumsiness is one of the side effects of pregnancy. It’s only temporary clumsiness though, so there’s no need to alarmed over it. Pregnancy clumsiness is caused by the loosening of joints and the water retention, both of which can make your grasp on objects to be less firm and sure. Sometimes it may be caused by your inability to concentrate enough, a result of so called the Scatterbrain syndrome.
Furthermore, when your belly gets bigger, your center of gravity shifts and makes you feel off-balanced. Therefore, try to avoid doing things that make you lose or challenges your ability to balance yourself. For example, walking on a slippery surface or carrying something heavy. You can help yourself by walking more deliberately, slow down your pace when doing things and avoid pushing yourself when tired. It’s important for you to know your current limitations and your lack of coordination. Don’t be afraid to call for help, I’m sure other people will be happy to help you.
