Terrible itch during pregnancy

Things were looking up by the end of first trimester. My heartburn problem seems to be coming to an end after suffering for nearly two months.

Unlike my first trimester, I feel like eating again. In fact, my appetite was ravaging. The smell of food was so inviting. I was so looking forward to get through my pregnancy’s first trimester. Everyone says that the second trimester is the most enjoyable period for pregnant mothers. This is the time where your appetite is good and you can go anywhere you like because the size of your baby bump won’t be hindering your movements very much at all. Well, nothing prepared me for what I’m about to face … ITCHINESS!

It will be impossible for me to forget about my pregnancy’s second trimester. Severe chronic itchiness started to bother me by the fourth month. It started off with some rashes on my belly. At first, I thought it is some prickly heat rashes, therefore I applied cooling powder daily throughout the entire day and night. That didn’t help. In fact, after a week, things took a turn for the worst. My rashes and itchiness became more severe. The skin on my belly was dry coupled with red rashes. It spread to my arms and legs and even my face too. I could barely manage to have a good night’s sleep.

I consulted my gynae and I was prescribed Chlorpheniramine to control my itch. It is recommended that Chlorpheniramine, in pills, is to be taken at night because it will make you feel drowsy. Frankly, Chlorpheniramine was able to help me sleep a lot better and I would’ve loved it if I had not worried about the possibility of it affecting my baby. Therefore, I only resort to taking Chlorpheniramine during sleepless nights when my itch is really unbearable.

My gynae also gave me Betnovate and Daktarin to apply on my belly arms and legs to treat my itchy rash. Unfortunately, both these creams did not help at all.
